Non-destructive testing

Control Union can perform various types of non-destructive testing on almost all types of equipment or construction.

In accordance with current EN/ISO, ASME and ASTM requirements, we are able to perform any conventional or advanced non-destructive testing. We have several unique and tailor made solutions for bolt inspections as well as drilling topdrive shaft inspection and composites. Our advanced NDT services are offered together with our sister company International Test Solutions

Our inspectors are Level 2 trained and compliant where required. We have approvals for NDT services from DNV-GL and ABS. Control Union also has in-house Level 3 specialists who can further assist you with various tasks and queries about non-destructive testing.

Conventional NDT services:

  • Visual Testing (VT)
  • Magnetic particle (MPI)
  • Eddy current (ET)
  • Dye penetrant (PT)
  • Plant inspections (API 510 / 570 / 653, EEMUA 159, ASME and CSWIP)
  • Ultrasonic (UT) including thickness measurements (UTM)
  • Hardness testing (HT)
  • Positive Material Identification (PMI)

Advanced NDT services:

  • Phased Array inspections (UT-PA)
  • Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD)

Bolt Services

We offer bolt and stud scanning based on UT Phased Array (DNV-GL approved) with our ScalaStud® tools, which allow for full scanning of the bolt or stud without the requirement for removal. Scanning can be performed on crane slewing flanges, marine riser connections or any other bolted connection. We also offer UT Tension measurement as well as bolt tension monitoring services.

Drilling Topdrive Shafts

We offer drilling topdrive shaft scanning with UT Phased Array (DNV-GL approved) with our ScalaShaft® scanner. This tool allows for a full scan from the inside of the shaft and does not require any disassembly of the topdrive. It minimizes downtime combined with maximal assurance.

Composite Integrity Monitoring System

With our product CIMS (Composite Integrity Monitoring System) we can make a statement about the strength of glass-fiber reinforced epoxy (GRE) and fiber-reinforced plastics (FRP) assets in a unique and innovative way. Examples are storage tanks, pressure vessels, pipework as well as ships hulls and other construction parts.
